Map - including Parking, Driving Directions, and Race Viewing

Conibear Shellhouse is located at the east end of campus near Husky Stadium. 

The above map includes highlighted areas pertaining to Conibear Shellhouse and rowing events.  For a more detailed look at a specific area, visit the UW at Campus Maps, and click on the main map to zoom.

Parking

Note:  Due to Sound Transit construction in many of the UW parking areas around Conibear Shellhouse, parking from 2010 - 2015 will be significantly impacted.  We have crossed out the information for the gatehouse that no longer exists.
The main parking gate to enter the east campus area, where the shellhouse is located, is the stadium entrance at ;  enter by taking a right off of Montlake Boulevard or straight through from NE Pacific Place (there is no left turn at this intersection for southbound Montlake drivers). There is a light at this intersection, and the large UW Athletics video screen is on the stadium there.  Once entered, stay to the right and request from the parking attendant at the booth "parking for Conibear Shellhouse" - and ask for directions there if you are not familiar with the area.  Parking is $6.00 for Evenings and Saturday (through noon Saturday; after noon is free as well as all day Sunday) and $12.00 (prorated) for weekdays.

For able bodied persons, the best bet is to park in E1 and walk to the crewhouse (<1/4 mile) and the course (>1/4 mile):

Except on days of major events (like the Windermere Cup (see below), football and basketball games), for $6.00 (for some events it is $7.00) on all weekdays and Saturdays until noon (Saturday afternoons and Sundays are free), you can park in the large E1 Montlake Lot at .  The entrance to this area is north of the stadium entrance by about 1/4 mile, and can be accessed from both north and southbound directions of Montlake Boulevard.  It is about a 250 yard walk from the south end of this lot to the shellhouse.  Parking meters are at the gates and accept $1 and $5 bills;  just enter and park.  There is a change machine for larger bills.

Other options:

The parking area directly adjacent to the shellhouse is E8.  We advise you do not park here unless you have an E8 permit.  Be advised that the University parking enforcement patrols this area frequently and will ticket your car if you do not have the proper permit on your dashboard.  Across the street from E8 are metered parking spaces, be sure to note which stall you have parked in.  Cost as of 4/11 for these limited spots is $3/hour.

Paid parking on the north side of the Cut, in the "S" areas around the UW Medical Center, is usually available for all regattas (except the Windermere Cup, see below).  Refer here for more information: Getting to UW Medical Center | UW Medicine, Seattle

Note: on Opening Day (Windermere Cup), the UW charges for event parking all day (generally $15.00), and some parking areas, particularly those around the Shellhouse (including E8), will be closed and reserved for visiting teams only.  Expect to walk a ways to the course and/or the crewhouse. A good choice, if you are planning on starting and/or ending your day (or both) at the crewhouse, is to park in the E1 Montlake Lot for $10.00 (event parking) as outlined above and walk to and from the course (about a quarter mile from the crewhouse to the canoe house - see below for race viewing areas).  Make sure you get back over the bridge (to the crewhouse side if that is where you are parked) as the bridge will open (following the last crew race) and stay open usually for three hours for the yacht parade.

Driving Directions to Conibear Shellhouse

From the South, including from Sea-Tac airport (northbound I-5):  After passing through downtown Seattle, move toward the right lane.  Take the Eastbound 520 exit, and stay in the right lane.  Travel about a mile on 520 and take the Montlake Boulevard exit, staying to the left.  Take a left onto Montlake Boulevard and within a half mile you will drive across the Montlake Bridge.  Watch for the stadium to your right, and follow the directions above for parking.

From the North (southbound I-5):  As you approach the Interstate 5 Ship Canal Bridge (about at the NE 45th St. exit), move toward the left lane.  Take the Eastbound 520 exit, and move to the right lane.  Travel about a mile on 520 and take the Montlake Boulevard exit, staying to the left.  Take a left onto Montlake Boulevard and within a half mile you will drive across the Montlake Bridge.  Watch for the stadium to your right, and follow the directions above for parking.

From the East:  Take 520 westbound, go across the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, and take the Montlake Boulevard exit.  The exit (which is like a roller coaster, drive carefully) takes you right to Montlake Boulevard going north across the Montlake Bridge.  Watch for the stadium to your right, and follow the directions above for parking.
 

Race Viewing

Anywhere along the Montlake Cut course provides excellent viewing of the races, but highlighted on the map are three areas that have proved popular in the past:

In addition, the south side of the Cut has a walkway that runs 500 meters to the finish.  Lane 1 is nearest to this side, and the finish line flag is here as well.  The downside is room is limited, as the Cut in some places is fairly steep and, as opposed to the north side which is UW property, the south side abuts private property (which is fairly well marked).  Towards the finish line it opens up more, and the sloping grass provides excellent viewing points - just as long as you aren't standing in someone's backyard!
