Bob Ernst: "We've got some happy guys here and some not so happy. But the fact is they all rowed hard today. The squad as a whole is really good. I can't say enough about this senior class. National Champs as freshmen, they are one of the best classes here at Washington to come along in a long, long time. And we're talking quality guys here. It wasn't perfect all the time, but I am very proud of what they were able to accomplish in their tenure."
"I also want to recognize our friends and alums. The support is just unbelievable. What we accomplished in the last couple of years, building a new shellhouse while increasing the number of active alums - it's incredible. And the team feels that too. The thing that's fun is having everyone participate - from the Class Day barbeque to the VBC banquet. The team is proud of having that support - they can feel it and it affects them..."
The Seattle Times: Sports: Imperfect race puts UW crew 4th at nationals
6/4 11:10 pdt - V8 finishes 4th. Harvard wins, Princeton is 2nd, Cal is 3rd.
Cal stormed out early, was up on the field by a half to three-quarters, with Wash, Princeton, and Harvard packed together. Harvard and Princeton then put a move on midway, moving through Cal. Unofficial: Harvard 5:31; Princeton 5:32, Cal 5:35, Washington 5:37; Northeastern 5:37.
6/4 10:25 pdt - JV8: From Greg King, coxswain (while standing on the medal stand) - "These guys just executed a perfect race. We were dead even with Cornell down the whole course. It was a fantastic race..."
Order of finish: Washington, Cornell, Wisco. Washington wins in the last five strokes. "Committed" was another word Greg used to describe the guys. Evan Galloway, bowman, is now a 4-time National Champion.
6/4 10:10 pdt - Freshmen collect the bronze after dueling Harvard all the way down the course for the 2nd and 3rd spots; times not out yet but it appears 10ths of a second will separate Harvard and Washington. Cal wins wire to wire. The race was delayed fifteen minutes due to a broken slide in the Harvard boat.
Course is glass, temperature is reasonable - excellent racing conditions.
6/4 7:40 pdt: The Open 4+ put a solid move on the field midway through the race and won the event by two seats - word is they were rowing in third place coming through 1000 meters, were in front as they passed 1500, and held off Northeastern at the end.
Course is calm, no rain.

6/3 10:20 - Frosh 8 - Washington wins their semi-final over Harvard; the race appears to have see-sawed back and forth, with Washington moving back on top towards the end and finishing about a half-length up. Cal wins the other semi by open water over Penn and Princeton.
By the way, it is pouring at Camden, with a sometimes fluky headwind down the course.
6/3 9:30 - JV8 - Washington finishes 3rd behind Cornell and Yale, but qualifies for the Grand Final. Washington finishes about a length back of Eastern Sprints champ Cornell in this semi.
6/3 8:35 - V8 - Washington wins their semi-final; Cal and Washington dueled within a deck through the first 1,000 meters; Washington then moved in front by a half length, with Cal then catching a crab in the last 500, BU (lane 5) nipping Cal (lane 2) at the end, and Washington finishing about a length up; in the second semi, Harvard defeated Princeton by what they are calling 2 feet in a barn burner...

6/2 10 a.m. pdt: V8, JV8, F8 all advance to the semi's; Open 4+ will row in the rep. Freshmen scored a significant upset over Eastern Sprint champion and number 2 ranked Brown to win their heat, while the favored JV8 was surprised by Wisconsin at the line, finishing about a seat behind the Badgers. No surprises in the V8 as the four favorites all finished ahead of the pack in their respective heats. The Open 4+ will compete in the reps - they will need to win their repechage to compete in the final on Saturday.

Class Day
Congratulations Men's Senior and Women's Junior classes on impressive victories in the Cut today. Here's the article: Senior Men, Junior Women Capture Class Day Trophies :: Freshmen men impressive in runner-up showing. Oh, by the way, it rained, which didn't seem to dampen the spirit of the crowd - we served more people this year than in any past year at the BBQ.
Al Erickson '82, chair of the Husky Crew Awards Banquet, would like to thank the following volunteers for making it happen: Mischelle Day and Shari Fisher for their work at the door, Gints for everything, and Dan Morken for working the A/V center and seamlessly weaving the dvd's and the tapes and the powerpoint cd's into a really impressive program.
Dwight Phillips '71, chair of the Class Day Cruise, would also like to thank Mischelle Day and Shari Fisher, and Marilyn Feller. This is the eleventh Class Day Cruise that Dwight has chaired; since this was the 11th Annual Cruise (and the largest yet), that would mean he's done all of them. Thank you Dwight!
Eric Cohen '82 and Al Forney '82, BBQ chairs, would like to thank the following volunteers: Jim Pugel '81, Kevin Hansen '82, Peg Achterman '82, Fred Raney '61, George Teasdale '76, Mike Hess '77, Heidi Hurn '03, Erin Curry '03, Gints Salaks '03, Jon Corriveau '82 for the beverages and Mark Miller '79 for the apples, and parents Debbie Jackson and Emily Hansen for helping us sell gear.
What a great weekend! It rained! So what!
We will have more pictures here of the races, banquet, and bbq as they come in from our photographers; here we go:
